On May 27, the “Second International EDIGA Conference: Gender, digital environments and adolescence” took place at the Department of Educational Research of CINVESTAV, in Mexico. They are part of the EDIGA project “Digital Environments and Gender Identities in Adolescence” funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (PID2019-108221RB-I00) of Spain, carried out by teams from Spain, Uruguay and Mexico.
The conference has been a space for continuity of those held on July 13 and 14 at the Faculty of Education Sciences of the University of Santiago de Compostela to dialogue, share and analyze the practices of adolescents in digital environments and their implications in the configuration of gender subjectivities.
Adriana Gewerc, Fernando Fraga-Varela, Uxía Regueira and Ángela González-Villa, members of the Stellae Research Group and the ETIGA project, participated in the conference in Mexico with different works that dealt with the role of digital platforms in the construction of gender subjectivity in adolescents.
The conference began with the inaugural conference by Adriana Gewerc Barujel: “Devices of subjectivation and situated gender negotiations” which reflected the meaning, meaning and journey of the ETIGA project.
The round tables have reported on the main results of the research project.
Ángela González-Villa presented the work: “Public or private? A gender vision of adolescent profiles on Instagram”; which he carried out together with Ana Rodríguez-Groba, Esther Vila-Couñago and Esther Martínez-Piñeiro.
Uxía Regueira presented the work: “Digital competence and gender device. The place of adolescent daily life in school”; carried out together with Adriana Gewerc and Esther Vila-Couñago.
Fernando Fraga-Varela intervened with the work: “Influences of Instagram’s digital architecture: music as a reference”; carried out together with Almudena Alonso-Ferreiro. He also presented “The Selfie: Profiles in Adolescence from the Use of Social Networks”; together with Adriana Pouso-Tobío.
“Ephemeral or Permanent? A gender look at adolescent self-surveillance on Instagram” has been the work presented by Ángela González-Villa and Uxía Regueira; carried out together with Inés Ramos-Trasar and Ana Rodríguez-Groba.
Each of the different moments of the conference has had as its objective not only the dissemination of results, but also the discussion of the analysis and the sharing of emerging questions with the scientific community, allowing to nourish the work that the three teams have been developing in recent years.
