Our history

The Stellae Research Group (GI-1439 of the USC) was born at the beginning of 1997.

It is composed of a group of educational researchers interested in building knowledge with the potential to transform the practices of educational institutions in order to improve their processes of teaching, learning, training and professionals’ development.

The group’s hallmarks are they interest in a broad spectrum of topics; the integration of professionals from other educational levels, and the pursuit of interdisciplinarity, both internally -members with different specialization profiles- and externally, through collaboration with other groups to promote synergies in educational research. A plural group to address plural aspects of educational research.

A plural group to address plural aspects of educational research.

Phases

Development 1997-1999.

Characterized by the completion of doctoral theses and the achievement of professional stability.

During this period, the first research project on “The contributions of institutions to the professionalization of teachers: a study of their characteristics in Galicia” (1996-1999) was obtained.

And in 1998, a project from European Commission Alfa Program was obtained, and this was a group incentive to growth and its projection to other groups, universities and countries.

The achievement of the third research project entitled “The influence of new technologies in the organizational and professional development of educational centers. Study of the situation in Galicia” (2001-2004), marks the beginning of the second stage of this phase, since the research funded at state level is consolidated.

01

Internationalisation 2007-2014.

Is given by the beginning of the internationalization stage of the group, generated through projects funded by the Inter-University Cooperation and Scientific Research Program of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), in collaboration with several Latin American universities in Chile, Bolivia and Argentina, focused on the theme of ICT integration in the university environment.

Within this framework we have created the UNISIC Network (University for the Knowledge Society).

And for the active participation in the IARTEM NETWORK, an international community of European and Latin American researchers whose purpose is to promote research in the field of textbooks and didactic media.

The projects obtained in all these years have made it possible to reach a competitive position in relation to other groups working in similar fields.

This allowed us to obtain in 2007 the recognition as a Competitive Research Group of the Galician R&D&I System granted by the Regional Ministry of Innovation and Industry. A recognition that we have revalidated in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

02

Consolidation 2014-2022.

A period of consolidation of its structure, with an increase in scientific production and internal reorganization through differentiated teams with specific tasks.

Since 2014, as a result of the calls for the Consolidation and Structuring of Competitive Research Units of the Department of Education of the Xunta de Galicia, the group obtained the recognition of Growth Potential Group consecutively until 2022.

This produced sustainability in growth projects, supporting the incorporation and professional development of young researchers who have become the future of the group.

DIMElab, a spin-off of the Stellae Research Group, was also born in this phase, dedicated to the design, analysis and development of educational media, offering pedagogical advice to publishers, educational institutions, training companies and software companies.

03

Group enlargement 2023-.

Characterised by the expansion of the group with the incorporation of new members and, with this, new lines of research.

Generated by the expansion of the group with the incorporation of new members and, with this, new lines of research. And by the recognition, given its trajectory, scientific production, and contributions to the community, as a Competitive Reference Group, in the call for the Consolidation and Structuring of Competitive Research Units of the Department of Culture, Education and University of the Xunta de Galicia in the year 2022.
