The first volume of the monograph ““Challenges to the educational field: digital competence” has just been published in the Ibero-American Journal of Learning Technologies (IEEE - RITA); under the coordination of Adriana Gewerc Barujel, coordinator of the G.I. Stellae, Donatella Persico and Virginia Rodés-Paragarino, member of the G.I. Stellae.

It is the first of the two volumes that make up the monograph, due to the high quality participation obtained by the call for articles. This special issue aims to contribute to the state of knowledge in the field of digital competence and the challenges it poses to education, helping to understand the needs, problems and solutions around this topic. It was conceived and announced before the State of Alarm was declared promoted by COVID-19, but the issue and its objectives reveal a concern in the educational field that was magnified by the Pandemic. The articles it contains were written during confinement and, although they reflect a scenario prior to this one, they account for the reality under which we face the current situation.
